Mare Blue Crete

This is showing as a 4 star by Jet2 and is officially a 4 star hotel. On arrival, I was charged 15 euros a night, which is the charge for a 5 star, I did complain and got the difference back. The hotel is listed as ideal for a solo traveller, which I was, so thought I would find like minded people there. It took half my holiday to find anyone from the UK, then I found one more just before I left. Lots of French, German, Polish and Bulgarian holiday makers there. The Jet2 rep does not visit the hotel (probably due to virtually nobody from the UK) but I found out she did visit the hotel 10 minutes down the road. There are no entertainment people from Jet2 on site. The lovely girls from the German company Alltours were happy for me to join in their activities. Be prepared to pay for some cocktails such as Pina Colada, and any alcoholic drink after 11.00 pm, so not really all inclusive. The food is so so, but guess that comes down to individual taste. The room was a standard room, the bathroom looked like it had recently been refurbished with a nice overhead shower. No issues with the staff, they were all friendly enough. I was told I had to be out of my room by 11.00am, but not picked up by 7.00pm, however, they did allow me to stay in the room until I left, probably as the hotel wasn't full. The hotel is nice enough, but wouldn't go back and would't rate this as more than 3 stars, this was the same opinion as the 2 people that I found from the UK

Please do not book this hotel if you are expecting 4 or 5 star. We booked with jet 2. The jet 2 side of things was perfect. Hotel not so perfect Thanks to jet 2 for saving our holiday. We moved hotels. We felt we didn't have a choice but to co.plain to jet 2. I had just come from a 5 star hotel in rhodes. Was perfect. The rooms although clean are very dated. And subpar. The furniture hasn't been replaced in a long time it has just been painted over to try and look modern. Our room smelt of paint. Night staff was appalling. No drink on arrival. Some left over scraps that personally I wouldn't feed to animals. That was classed as snacks on arrival. Animation/entertainment solely in foreign. Try doing bingo in a language tou dont speak.lol. The whole experience was bad. From the childs park only have 1 swing on a frame that can have 5 or 6. To the rubber matting with dangerous gaps and not laid properly. Been down that long the tree roots have lifted it etc. Mould on light shades in dining area. Children's food section closed. Strange during kids holidays. Ended up driving our special needs family member 1hr30 to the only mcdonalds on the island for some chicken nuggets lol. Stephano is the guests manager. Unfortunately by the time we spoke the hotel was doomed. He is the only positive from the hotel. Tbh he made us feel a touch guilty moving. But as good as he is he can't bring the hotel into the 21st century over night. Thanks stephano for atleast trying. Surround yourself with better staff and you could carry the hotel. In its current state I cannot see it being offered by jet 2 again.

I was actually there in October 2023. The hotel is located near Lerapetra on the beach shore. The rooms are in order. There is a swimming pool for children. The food is delicious. Only with all inclusive was the poor choice of alcoholic beverages. Next to it are several souvenir shops, car rental points. You need to drive to the sights of Crete (they are all further). Water activities can be ordered on the beach.
