Canary Nungwi Hotel & Spa

Misleading Hotel & False Advertising I booked at Canary Nungwi Hotel & Spa, which was advertised as a modern 4-star resort. Instead, I arrived to find the property had quietly rebranded as Golden Canary without informing guests. What I got was a dusty hotel that looked nothing like the photos or description at the time of booking. The rooms and floors were dirty, the facilities were outdated,. When I questioned this and requested compensation for the obvious downgrade, management flatly refused. Reading other reviews after my stay, I realized this isn’t an isolated case — many other tourists have been tricked in the same way. This is clear misrepresentation and dishonest practice. The hotel continues to advertise under its former name and category to lure guests into paying more, then delivers something completely different upon arrival. It’s unacceptable and feels like a deliberate scam. Zanzibar is a wonderful destination, but I strongly urge future travelers: do not book here. Save yourself the disappointment, frustration, and wasted money.

Terrible experience. Hotel was a scam, we were given another lower rating hotel in the back compared to the 4 star one we booked. Only informed about this booking at the reception upon arrival. Other than that staff was decent and breakfast was good w plenty variety. Definitely make sure you are booking the right hotel and double check with pricing and pictures as this was an unpleasant suprise upon arrival

Horrible experience! We booked at canary resort and spa -4 star but on arrival we were shocked to know that there is no such booking for us. And when we showed proof of our booking they said they have changed their resort name and mentioned our booking is actually for canary golden which is at the back portion of this hotel and it is a 3star. But our payment was for the 4star room rate. The managements which comprise of egyptians were very rude and not helpful at all. We have been scammed. After reading many reviews once we came back, many others have went thru the same ordeal as us. The egyptians also treat their local workers very poorly
