HF Fenix Porto

This is a great modern hotel that is clean, spacious and friendly. Essentials: Room: Big, modern and well laid out. They will mainly look onto other buildings and so not a great view, but there are no balconies and so not really an issue. Food: Only had breakfasts but they were great. Loads of choice, all fresh and very tasty. It was only €12 each per day which was really good value considering. Location: Not the best to be honest but still only a short distance from the main posts of the city. Top Tips; DON’T get into a taxi, use an uber. They are half price, very clean and reliable. You can get to the centre of Porto for around €4 / 5. Beach: If you are looking to enjoy a beach as well as a city take an uber to Mathinsos ( possibly spelt wrong). It is only €9 / 10 to get to but is lovely. We found a lovely bar on the front - far end from the large ship - with comfy beds and Sat there for 7 hours straight. I stayed at HF Fenix Porto for 3 nights in April. It looked nice online, was a reasonable price and was in a good location. It turned out to be a very good choice. I generally like hotel 'brands' anyway as I like modern and well organised accommodation and facilities and not overly bothered about 'character' and 'charm'. This was my first time in an HF hotel and I liked it very much. My room was outstanding in every way. I slept well every night (and the afternoon I got there after a 3.45am wake up that morning to set off on my trip) The bathroom was large with an excellent shower. The television and kettle/refreshments were excellent and there were lots of windows and a cool airy decor. It wasn't particularly hot while I was there but I imagine it will be very comfortable during Summer. The OnTerrace bar was very good and I had a very nice pizza there on my first evening and they have a good selection of beverages. The staff are brilliant as well, as they are throughout the hotel. They are a credit to their company. I very much enjoyed the breakfast buffet and it contained everything you could want, including creme brulet and green jelly which I very much enjoyed alongside the cured meats, rustic breads and the nicest scrambled eggs I've had. A nice selection of tea bags as well. I will remember the HF brand and stay in their hotels again on future visits to other cities in Portugal and I'll come here to Fenix again for sure when I return to Porto at some point in the future

As other reviews have noted, this is a fine hotel in a slightly awkward location - ten minutes from the Metro (less when the new pink line opens), and a lengthy walk into Porto’s central attractions. On the plus side, and very much so, you are an extremely short walk to the Mercado Bom Sucesso and its gastronomic delights. And Uber fares are remarkably low around the city. The hotel itself is stylish, and reception staff are friendly and helpful. Our sixth floor room was very spacious with a chair and table by the dual aspect windows (which really need cleaning). The beds were firm but cosy with generous pillows, and the rainfall shower head in the well laid-out and equipped bathroom was excellent. Breakfast is solid and consistent. Bacon and scrambled egg is offered daily with varying other items, breads and fruits are plentiful along with cold meats, cheeses and pastries too. We felt at home here, and while it lacks frills, I’d use this hotel again should I return to Porto.
