Vila Gale Collection São Miguel

I stayed at the Vila Gale Collection Hotel for four nights as part of a tour of the Azores Islands. The Hotel is centrally located and it is in a beautiful old building. Front desk staff is nice if you do not ask anything but, the moment you have a request, they turn nervous and brisk. Rooms are nice, even if on the small side, but they are not well equipped. There is no coffee machine or kettle, there is only a bunch of tissues, and you still get a bunch (a long time later) if you ask for more. Basically, service in rooms is not good. The buffet for dinner is nice and there is a good choice, but if there are other events in the hotel choice becomes more limited and sloppy. For breakfast coffee is only available from kettles. Not a good choice.

Amazing except for that mattress So, I’m conflicted. Everything about this hotel is great, except the mattress. The mattress was SO hard (and you could kind of feel the springs), I do not know how anyone slept on it. I requested blankets that I piled to make some cushioning, which helped but not entirely. The one must of a hotel is to get a good night’s sleep. And that was harder than it should have been. If the mattress had been sleepable, this hotel would have gotten 5 stars from me. The location is absolute perfection. Could not be better. Right on the edge of the Centro Histórico, I walked to dinner every night (5-10 min walk to all the best restaurants). It’s across from the marina. And right by a rental car spot. The pool area is beautiful. The sun hours are a little more limited than the actual hours of daylight because the pool is enclosed in a four-walled courtyard, but no big deal. The lounge chairs are so comfortable. The pool clean and well-maintained. The indoor pool and spa area were clean and nice. I sat in the small (but great) sauna every day. Breakfast is totally decent for a hotel brunch spread. They have a cooking station for fresh omelettes, fried eggs, pancakes. The bell tower is loud when you are outside, but I couldn’t hear it when I slept. The staff was nice (though not necessarily the most helpful with specific recommendations of tour companies or specific restaurants). My room was spacious and clean. Excellent cleaning service. The bathroom is nice with a great shower. Black out curtains were great. Lots of storage. Literally, everything was great except that mattress. If they replace them, I would certainly stay here again

The hotel itself is beautiful. The room was large and comfortable. Good breakfast. The bad: The rooms have very high ceilings and get very cold at night. They don’t have heat and they don’t have space heaters. The mattress is not very comfortable. In top of that it is covered in plastic. Every time you turn you hear the noise. Not a good sleeping experience. The pool and Spa are very nice with an interior and exterior pool. The service for the massage was an absolute waste of time and money. One of the absolute worst experiences I had. I asked her to put some pressure but all she did was à carrés not an experienced massage. You get a small water the first day and then you pat 5 EU a bottle. Personnel goes from very nice to apathetic. Beautiful hotel in a good location. Restaurant for dinner is not good. I love the building but I would not stay again. Too expensive to be cold in an uncomfortable bed

This is a beautiful hotel on the boardwalk and used to be a convent. The sauna, indoor pool, and outdoor pool are wonderful, the outdoor pool especially. (The indoor pool is difficult for lap swimming.) Front desk is super helpful. One concern I had is that my beautiful room had wall to wall rugs, and the AC unit I could not turn on which was fine temperature wise though left a moisture in the air. The bathroom did not have a fan. As such, in this often foggy climate, I found myself wondering if there was black mold — as there was a tiny bit on the shower ceiling and floor. Personally I enjoyed sleeping al fresco with windows open overlooking the pool.

Excellent Hotel - wonderful big rooms , good restaurant , wonderful service & best massages at the Spa ( ask for Ruth !) and great pools. In the center of Ponta Delgado the perfect location for your stay at San Miguel. All new renovated and elegant
