I was concerned about some of the harsh reviews on Trip Advisor but I can honestly say whilst there is some room for improvement, it was much better than I expected. Location - Just south of Flic en Flac about 45 to 60 mins drive from the airport. Appearance - The hotel only has 102 rooms and is a 3 star registered hotel so if guests are looking for 5 star elegance, they will be disappointed. There are parts of the hotel that need some TLC, but there is nothing so bad that could give guests a negative thought. Pool/Grounds - The grounds are well maintained and look stunning. They have two pools, one general pool which is used for aqua gym etc and a smaller roof top infinity pool, which gives awesome views over the beach. The Beach - Tamarin beach is right outside the front door, but it's a public beach so there are no brollies or beds on the beach but the hotel does provide free beach mats Staff - All the staff we came into contact with were warm, friendly and positive. There were some exceptional performers, namely our housekeeper Kenny, who not only kept our room clean and tidy but did some fantastic towel art. Bhavish at the rooftop bar, Paynee the restaurant manager.Sunedin at breakfast who cooked the most delightful freshly made to order omelets, and my favourite Abigail on reception. She is a real credit to the hotel who fully understands what hospitality really means. She answered all.my questions with ease, resolved a couple of small issues we had with a positive attitude and arranged for a late check out for us at no cost. I do not know if the hotel has a management training scheme but if they have one Abigail should be on it. Food/Drinks - The wine beer and local spirits were all fine, but as an all inclusive customer I was only allowed 4 of the 18 cocktails on offer, as the others used premium alcohol and incurred a premium price. The food was a bit repetitive, breakfast was fine with eggs made to order, plenty of hot food, supplemented by pastries, fruit and yoghurt. Lunch was by far the worst meal of the day, the menus were very limited, the food took ages to arrive and was often cold. Dinner was not bad, always a meat dish, a fish dish and a pasta dish, supplemented by dishes of potatoes and veg. The A la Carte menu is also not totally All inclusive, the hotel allows a discount of 800 MR per person but anything over this has to be paid for on checkout. The one thing that annoyed me, was that even though we were on an all inclusive basis, we still had to sign a receipt after every meal or drinks round. Even if the bill was nil, it all seemed a bit pointless. Rooms - Our bedroom was on the small side and we struggled to find a place to put our cases. That said the bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of wardrobe space. The room had a free safe, air con, tea and coffee facilities with a kettle plus a fridge which received 2 free bottles of water daily. Bathroom - Our walk in shower was nice and hot but the power was poor. It had a hair dryer and dispensers of shower gel, shampoo and soap. If one is fussy about toiletries then I suggest you bring your own. Spa - prices were between £50 - £60 for a massage . We thought itcwas a bit pricy and did not use the spa. Gym - The hotel has a small gym with modern equipment but keys to the unit have to be obtained from reception. Money Exchange - The hotel offers money exchange but at a high cost. 10% fees on cash 15% on credit card transactions Entertainment - During the day there is aqua gym, walks around the village or the coastline, and predominantly run by Whitney from the animation team. The hotel also organisers a Tuesday Sega dance on the beach and a Thursday night BBQ around the fire pit, both of which were quite enjoyable. In the evening there were various musical performances which were OK. WIFI - Free and powerful throughout the hotel. Trips - We took a taxi to Casela Nature park only 10 mins away. We walked the Tamarin cascades with Prakesh who was a fabulous guide and picks up from the hotel he can be contacted on what's app on +23057608367, and we did a full day tour of southern Mauritius with Pravesh on +230 58195950, another great trip We would recommend. Finally we swam with dolphins on the sea which was arranged by the hotel and was just awesome.

Veranda Tamarin is a lovely hotel. Can’t recommend it enough. The rooms are cleaned daily, nice big shower, fridge, kettle etc. comfy bed too. Food is excellent. The hotel wasn’t full when we were there so sometimes lunch was served a la carte in the bar area. For breakfast you had a good selection of breads, meat, cheese, eggs, cereals etc. For dinner there was a good selection of food. Two or three choices of meat, fish and veg dishes. Lots of salad and vegetables. We were all inclusive, the drinks were local brands but were fine, the local Phoenix beer is lovely. You could pay extra for branded drinks but I didn’t think it was necessary, prices were not too expensive if you do. There was music on every night, even a sega group on the beach! The rooftop pool bar was excellent as was the main pool area. Lovely, well maintained gardens. It’s situated on a public beach which is known for its surfing. We spent some time sat watching the surfers trying to ride the waves. We also swam in the sea which was a lot warmer than the pools. There are some street food shacks on the beach, didn’t seem too expensive. As it was winter in Mauritius a lot of the local shops and amenities were closed but there was enough to do. We had a hire car and explored a bit. We used the spa a couple of times for massages. Would definitely recommend these. For us the biggest asset of the hotel is the staff. They are very welcoming, friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. We had a great holiday in Mauritius and can 100% recommend Veranda Tamarin. We hope to return one day. Michael and David.
