Hotel Strolz

I rarely write reviews, but feel the need to on this occasion. We were booked for a ski trip this year and offered a week in the Hotel Pension Strolz. After we had booked I looked through the reviews.. by the time we arrived I was really quite apprehensive about what we would find.. it couldn't have been further than expected! Hans met us at reception and was lovely. Very welcoming, his English is brilliant, explained everything well. Not to generalise, but I find by nature the German accent quite sharp and curt but certainly not intentionally rude. I had read so many negative reviews about him and his manner, but we spoke with him a some point every day and he was polite and friendly on every occasion( even though we were English, as many people seem to think he was only friendly to Germans). General chit chat then yes you will naturally gravitate to those that speak your language, but we were in no way snubbed because we didn't. His family all live in the hotel, and I think we spoke with them all at some point. The room was lovely and spacious. On the 3rd floor, glorious views, comfy beds, loads of storage which is vital for a ski holiday! My only 'negative' for the whole holiday were the pillows!! They weren't great, but maybe I am a pillow snob. Tons of hot water, lovely powerful shower. A great room! Room tidied and cleaned every day. Food is just fantastic! 4 courses, which others already explain you pick at breakfast ( which is also plentiful and lovely). Starter, soup, main and dessert. If you are a fussy eater , you may struggle with the food, I tried a few new things which I wouldn't normally have picked in a restaurant, my husband is fussier that I, but the quality and presentation of the food is really good and we both ate far too much. There was a mention of sharing a table with others, the hotel was full last week and we had our own table, so not sure how often that happens. The waiting staff were all so lovely and efficient. Couldn't fault them. We did go to the pool, we were the only ones in it when we went, on the cooler side yes, but fine once you are in. The sauna is a 'naked sauna', I didn't venture in. All the facilities were well maintained. Great boot room, warmest our ski boots have even been! Loads of space to put kit on. Walk to the ski bus about 5 mins. All I can say is, we had an amazing week, and we have already said we will go back and likely stay there again. A very easy hotel, pleasant and friendly. Great food. Well situated in the town. So glad I didn't let the negative reviews change my choice of hotel. If you go... I hope you have a great a week as we did.

The hotel-pension Strolz is one of the best locations for ski in Mayrhofen - quiet area with the ski-bus close, nice view of the Alps and free parking. Breakfast and dinner are really good, helpful staff, spacious clean rooms, ski locker, pool. I definitely recommend Strolz for anybody visiting Mayrhofen.

I reviewed the Strolz last year. I am pleased to say that it is still excellent in terms of service, hospitality, value for money, cleanliness and facilities. The rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast has a good choice of hot and cold and the four-course dinner is always good, with vegetables complementing the meat (or vegetarian if you prefer), which is not something you necessarily find in all Austrian hotels.
