River Cruises Collection: Walking and Wine tasting in Weissenkirchen
Welcome to Weissenkirchen, a Gothic town that's part of the famous wine-growing region in the Wachau Valley. On this two-hour visit, you'll take a stroll through the centre, before visiting a church and then a vineyard. Led by an expert tour guide, you'll start by ticking off age-old winegrowers' houses as you explore the streets, and snap photos of the vineyards that roll out like a green carpet beyond the town. Your guide will then take you to St Michael's Church. Marvel at the Gothic architecture and learn about the legend of the seven rabbits – a mysterious group of little concrete bunnies that sit on the roof of the nave. You're bound to be thirsty after all that sightseeing, so it's a great time to stop by the Mang Winery for a wine-tasting session. Familiar wines grown in this part of Austria include Riesling, Neuburger, Traminer and Sauvignon Blanc – and on your vineyard visit, you'll get to taste three of them. Plus, you'll learn all about the wine-making process, and get to wander some of the vineyards before you head back to the ship.
