This excursion lets you explore the Rastatt Christmas Market under your own steam. You’ll jump on a bus transfer from the ship, then get dropped off in the centre of this Baroque town for two and a half hours. There’s no guide, so you can use your time to do what you like – be it splashing the cash on the market stalls or sightseeing around the historic streets. Must-see landmarks for culture vultures include two grand chateaus that date back to the 1700s – one was inspired by the French palace of Versailles. And at the market, you can pick up all sorts of Christmas gifts to take home, like handcrafted nutcracker dolls, festive glühwein mugs, and lebkuchen – gingerbread. Afterwards, the bus will pick you up and zip you back to the ship.
