San Pedro Tour
What better way to experience the flavours of the Dominican Republic than a visit to one of its prettiest cities. There'll be sugar, rum and cigars aplenty on this tour of San Pedro de Macoris's cultural hotspots. St Peter's Cathedral, the Macorix cigar factory and Barceló rum distillery are all on the menu during this half-day excursion.Kick off at St Peter's Cathedral, which has a spire visible from any point in the city. Admire its gleaming neo-Gothic style and beautiful stained glass windows. Then swing by the Macorix cigar factory. Tour its workshop and get the chance to buy the quality cigars it is famed for.Heading to the other side of the city, you'll pass a sugar mill and San Pedro baseball field – it's the country's national sport. Finally, you'll call in at the Barceló rum distillery. On a guided tour of its ageing cellars, you'll learn the history of rum as a favourite pirate tipple before getting the chance to try some for yourself.
