Great location and potential, but falls short of 5-star expectations
We stayed at the Aminess Khalani Hotel in Makarska and, while the hotel boasts an excellent location and modern design, the overall experience fell short of what one would expect from a 5-star property. A rating of 3 reflects a mix of positive impressions and several shortcomings that affected the quality of our stay. The hotel’s location is truly fantastic – right by the sea, along a promenade that leads easily to the center of Makarska. The view from the rooftop restaurant of the sea and sunset is memorable. Rooms are spacious and modernly furnished, but unfortunately, cleanliness and maintenance are not at the level expected for this category. After housekeeping visits, the room would often remain partially uncleaned, with missing supplies or unrefreshed items (towels, toiletries, minibar, etc.), leaving an impression of carelessness. The spa area, pools, and gym are well equipped and appreciated, but more attention to detail is needed here as well – especially regarding the availability of sun loungers. These are often reserved very early in the morning, despite hotel rules stating that such reservations are not allowed. Staff does not enforce these rules, and if you arrive later in the day, chances are you won’t find a spot. The greatest drawback was the organization and service in the restaurant. Dinner service was often overcrowded, and we frequently had to wait for a free table. The variety and quality of food did not meet the standards expected from a 5-star hotel. Although the restaurant staff is friendly and tries their best, it’s clear they are overworked and that the overall service is not well-coordinated. Another element missing is atmosphere and entertainment. During the day at the pool and in the evenings in the lobby, there was complete silence – no background music or any form of entertainment. We recommend that the hotel consider introducing light music during the day, DJ lounge sets, acoustic evenings by the pool, or even a relaxed program in the lobby with ambient music and drinks. Such additions would significantly enhance the guest experience and bring warmth to the overall atmosphere. That said, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to the front desk team, hotel managers, pool staff, and housekeeping – all of whom were consistently warm, smiling, and welcoming. Their friendly approach truly stood out and left a positive impression. In conclusion, Aminess Khalani has great potential, but at present, the service, organization, and attention to detail do not align with the expectations of a 5-star experience or the prices charged. Overall rating: 3 – average, with hope for improvements in the future.
