We had great weather. Nice beach, very nice New Year's eve party but food and service were at best average. The club has a nice potential but it has around 850 rooms. That's a lot of people. Staff were in general nice but the club is very very under staff. As a result, the service suffers and the staff is overworked. Food lacked taste and wow factor but no one starved. This hotel is max a 4 star hotel. We took the Sunclub option and we thought it was a good move. Many thanks to Nathaly the hostess at Kaleidoscope and to Anibelis at the Sunclub pool bar. We were at room 14338, no complaints about the maid. PS Before the manager issues his usual is automatic response, management should look at their performance. By the way, you should also look at putting people that smile at your sunclub reception because one of the lady there, is a complete mistake. Bad attitude, bad knowledge and most importantly, she does not want to be there. Mj

We are regular travelers to the Dominican Republic, usually Punta Cana, and decided to stay at Sunscape La Romana after having several AMAZING visits to Sunscape Puerto Plata. I really regret this decision. Our vacation at Sunscape La Romana was horrible. Sunscape La Romana was overrun by drunk teenagers who played loud music on speakers in their rooms, on the beach and at the pools. The teenagers (apparently from Spain) were unsupervised and out of control. They cut in lines at the buffet, used their hands to serve themselves food, and ran around drunk and disorderly. They somehow had gotten a hold of a wheelchair and ran around with it, running people over and breaking beer bottles everywhere. Repeated reports to the management were useless, they did nothing about these issues. We got very little sleep since our neighbors were playing their loud speakers and partying at all hours. Reports to the front desk got zero results. It was so bad that we banged on their door ourselves, but they didn't answer because they couldn't hear us. Also, DO NOT PAY extra for the SunClub because anyone can use its amenities. No one checked if we belonged in the SunClub lounge, SunClub pool, or SunClub beach. I feel dumb that I payed extra for something that everyone else was getting for free, even the loud, drunk teenagers who used their hands to serve themselves snacks in the SunClub Lounge. We couldn't eat in the SunClub lounge because they took the whole tray of snacks from the buffet with them, not that we even wanted to since they had their hands all over the food anyway. BEWARE of the rocky beach as two of my travel companions cut their feet on the rocks at the beach at Sunscape La Romana. We stayed at the neighboring hotel a few years ago, Dreams La Romana, where the beach was amazing and had no rocks. I do not understand why Sunscape wouldn't remove the rocks like Dreams apparently had done. I feel bad about leaving a bad review because there were some very good and hard working staff members. They also reported these problems and got nowhere with management. There is a serious problem with management at this hotel, as the regular staff were very nice and hardworking.

All-inclusive resorts are not generally our style, but we thought this one was very good overall. What we liked: The night/day entertainment is fantastic and really well ran. “la Machina” the woman who runs the programs is a force of nature! New Year’s Eve beach party - WOW! The rooms are spacious and clean. Be patient with the hot water, it will come eventually. Lol! The grounds are beautiful and clean. The main pool, swim up bar, giant waterslides and adult pools are great. The beach is beautiful with plenty of chairs. It is rocky though when you enter but there are a couple places you can access safely, and the water is calm. The scuba diving was surprisingly good, and Pierre was a great guide. Genesis is lovely. Good variety at the buffets and drink were tasty and adequately strong. The A La Carte Dining was very good. We loved the pizza, Mexican and Japanese restaurants. Franklin, our butler, was fantastic and was able to accommodate many requests (birthday cake, decorations, taxis, etc. What we didn’t like: We were there over Christmas and NY, and the resort was overwhelmed, particularly Food & Beverage. Long lines for drinks, tables were not re-set at the buffet so we often struggled to find plates, mugs and cutlery. We saw a significant improvement however after the Christmas rush when the resort was quieter. No reservations are accepted at the A La Carte restaurants, so if you want to get in, you have to show up at the door an hour ahead of time and stand in line. This is painful for small kids or elderly people. Beautiful whole crabs were served at the NYE buffet, but no crackers to crack them open:( The pool side snack bar was awful. Last, the beautiful restaurant on the water was inaccessible due to the owners booking the entire place for themselves… terrible way to treat your high-paying guests during high season;)
