Sunscape Dominicus La Romana

We have just returned from sunscape dominicus . Up on arrivel we upgraded to sea view room which was the best decision ever. The original basic room was a little minimezed so we are happy we made that decision. The beach is absolutely amazing stunning clear water and white sand. The hotel had various number of restaurants and we were happy with all the service whereever we went. We have been travelling to the caribbean for many years now and this was the first olace where we did not feel staff was being nice to rip us off. They generally were really helpful and not pushy at all. The food was great!very tasty and fresh! We only drank water from bottles never from tap. Cocktails at the bar were also nice. Just in general we definatley had a great time and will return with the kids as well in future.

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks in may, the grounds are gorgeous and very well kept, there is always something to do the entertainment is very well planned they do lots of big events around the main pool, all the staff were so friendly and attentive, the best for us were the two guys at the sun club pool bar and the staff in the sun club lounge (sorry guys can’t remember all the the names ) but must say all the other staff great also and the cleaner of the room, the best staff member was our butler Jose franco he went above and beyond for us absolutely amazing at his job and would recommend him to anyone he wa snore than happy to do anything for us, the whole hotel is beautiful would recommend

The entertainment and pool staff are amazing especially Machina and lifeguard Miguel and Domingo for cleaning the pool relentlessly. Some of the staff can be rude or just ignore you if you're english. The food is very repetitive in all of the restaurants. The best was probably the amazonian or the hibachi part of chopsticks. The hotel is very clean and our cleaner Yovanka was very attentive to our room. The mosquitos are rife so bring repellent. The beach is much better in punta cana with no rocks too.

Upfront, we have had well over 12 trips to the Dominican (last 20+ years). We have been to Puerto Plata (many times) and Punta Cana (even more times). Punta Cana has traditionally been our favorite of all the DR resort areas but we decided to try the La Romana area this time. We are Canadian and generally have a “go with the flow attitude” but certainly don’t mind raising an issue if we encounter one. A cracked tile by the pool or in our room is not an “issue” for us. Just to level set ..... while we have stayed at a wide range of DR resorts over the years, our most recent trips have been to the Royalton Punta Cana, Now Larimar Punta Cana, and Majestic Colonial (all 5 star). In all cases we have had a Diamond Club or VIP Club room/amenities. Our trip started off fantastic. Pickup at the airport with Nexustours was seamless. Took about an hour on the bus from PC airport to the resort. The check-in process at the SunClub area was fast and our attendant (Talia) could not have been nicer. We had a pool view, 2nd floor room in the adults only building (14). The VIP lounge was a nice welcome with cold drinks and snacks. ROOM The room was a bit “dated” but otherwise was quite large and had everything we needed. There was an in-room jetted hot tub that we did not use. Spacious walk-in shower that was great. Very small toilet stall with glass "privacy door". Nice (but dated) sitting area in the room with a sofa and table, should you want room service, and a great spacious balcony with a small table and 2 chairs overlooking the adults pool and beach. Overall, the room was great. King bed was comfortable with a great assortment of pillows and very comfortable bedding. Our housekeeper kept our room SPOTLESS with daily housekeeping and nightly turn-down service. FOOD/RESTAURANTS My wife found the food to be as good as any other DR resort (and maybe better). I was a bit “off” for my whole trip with a mild upset stomach. Breakfast was mostly at the buffet on the beach. Selection was varied and good. Then we’d pop up to the Coffee shop each morning for a great Latte and a muffin. The coffee was REALLY good. We ate lunch at Tierra a couple of times (SunClub only) and the salmon was great. We aren't huge "lunch eaters" and mostly had salads or fruit at the buffet. A couple of days we ate poolside at the small restaurant under the beach buffet. Hamburgers were quite good and fries were welcomed. The servers in the Kaleidoscope buffet (where we had most of our breakfasts and lunches) were spectacular. For dinner, we liked the Japanese Teppanyaki as well as the Asian sit-down. The other restaurants were nice …. Mexican was decent, Tierra was certainly the best. Food presentation in all the restaurants was spectacular. The restaurants had amazing décor. They rivalled anything you’d see in a 5 star restaurant or on a cruise ship. A HUGE shoutout to Jhonaykel who looked after us for the 2 weeks at the Kaleidoscope buffet. A STANDOUT. VIP AREA We also loved the SunClub VIP lounge, where you can get light snacks as well as a wide assortment of top shelf liquor. Beer is always cold and plentiful. Willams was a fantastic bartender. We spent almost every night in this area (inside and outside) and it was also quite lovely. BEACH We typically don’t lounge near the beach but we always love having two long walks each day. The aqua blue water was fantastic but the beach itself is quite small and the walk is quite short. There are rocks off in the water but it never bothered us as we don’t go into the salt water much anyway. OVERALL We are well travelled Dominican resort people, and we understand that the Sunscape Dominicus is not a high-end five-star resort … you might be able to find something much nicer …. just expect to pay two times the cost. But when considering value for money, it’s a great place. I would recommend SunClub but to each his own. It was a safe, clean and beautiful resort with decent (if not quite gourmet) food and cold beer and drinks with fabulous people. P.S. One last thing we have to mention…. we are both animal lovers and thoroughly enjoyed the resident cats (and even moreso the kittens). We fell in love with all of them. We hope that guests continue to be kind to all the animals and give them treats. And we also encourage the staff to show the cats and kittens kindness as well. The ducks, peacock, peahen, and turtles were also a lovely touch.

My partner and I recently stayed at Sunscape and decided to upgrade to sun club, which gave us access to extra facilities, included in this was the service from our incredible butler Saul Castillo. Saul made our trip absolutely perfect, he was kind, organised and extremely helpful. Saul made sure that we had everything we wanted and more, he even booked us a lovely dinner without us asking. If anyone is staying here I would highly recommend them to request Saul if they want to have the most memorable and stress free stay. The hotel was gorgeous too and beach is stunning.
