The Chelsea

I have stayed at the Hotel many times since its reopening a few years ago and my experiences have left me feeling like i should write my first review ever of a hotel. I travel extensively for my job as well as have family that live in NYC and so I have been able to stay the hotel for a range of trips. My initial trip where we stayed at The Hotel Chelsea was a business one, where the hotel was picked for as I had usually stayed in other parts of the city. It wasn't my first pick of hotels originally from the list we usually stay at, but i am so glad i was introduced to it and have never looked back I have since stayed there at different times of year (warm weather and cold), for different reasons (business and personal) and in different room types (standard, through to their largest suite) and each time i have had a wonderful experience, leading me to write this review. I have constantly experienced a high level of service in many situations. I have been unexpectedly upgraded on arrival, when the hotel has been quieter. I have been given last minute spa appointments, including one spa appointment i had on a trip where they graciously moved me when i was 15mins late to my one hour appointment, slightly down a time so i could still receive the full hour. All done without me asking or expecting it, which was surprising and very kind considering i was the one who was late! They have made last minute dinner reservations for my business associates when asked and their door men are always so kind and genuinely helpful, which is becoming rarer in the city. A lot of the above, obviously depend on availability but the fact that they noted that they had the availability, before being asked and then put in the additional efforts un prompted to give me a wonderful experience instead of the usual cavalier attitude of some hotel management/staff was very impressive and has led me to return many times. The finer points: - It is a smaller / eclectic hotel. You come for the charm, the art, the comfort and the hospitality. The staircase is a work of art and if you aren't carrying anything heavy, is sometimes quicker than the elevators. - The Room decor isn't necessarily my taste, but it certainly connects with the aesthetic of the hotel and each item you can see is curated thoughtfully. Not to mention the comfy beds and furniture make up for it! - The spa is lovely! It is small and doesn't have all the amenities of bigger hotels but it is enchanting! Due to its size, they seem to be very intentional in how many appointments they take and people they allow at the spa at a time, which can feel limiting when you are trying to secure an appointment time, but you are incredibly grateful when you get there. The staff working there are so kind and thoughtful also. It is not a spend all day kind of spa with the size, but when you are there it is so cozy and enchanting. - The gym is small but enough for what you need. One of everything with lots of light, clean AND in the cutest building on the rooftop. Almost a turret - and has a fireplace (not working) but just explains the charm. Quite a different hotel gym experience in NYC. - 24 hour Room service was great and most importantly, swift. They were also very quick on the removal of trays etc. outside the door when called. They also have a list of additional complimentary amenities you can have sent up, adding to the convenience of your stay. - The turn down service is always lovely and the range of sweets/macaroons that they leave by your bedside are always delicious! I usually stash them away to bring back to my kiddos. - The rooms and bathrooms are bigger than most "vintage" hotels in NYC and you can request to make sure you have a bathtub in your room, as not all have. If it doesn't have one already though, i have always noted it is a generously sized shower. - I have experienced staying on the top floor and the lowest floor and was shocked /comforted that on the first floor i didn't have a noise problem. Which is impressive considering they have two restaurants, the lobby and a hotel bar, plus the loud streets of manhattan, all on the ground floor beneath you! - Location is great. With the main train line station down the block, several great coffee places, bakeries, bites and a liquor store next door to grab a bottle of wine as a quick host gift when visiting friends for dinner. Being central in the city allowed this to be a great stop when needing to travel all over the city for days. I would highly recommend the hotel. It is a chic, and enchanting stay, made all the more delightful by the incredibly staff and service in every category of the hotel!

The Hotel Chelsea is one of those rare and special places that has a timeless feel and authentically nostalgic. The vibrant and eclectic history of the hotel is well-represented and you feel immersed in that but not over-whelmed. It is a place where you feel like things are simpler and have slowed down just a bit, while at the same time having all the comforts of the finest in hospitality, dining and libations. And for those of us that may enjoy a late night (or 2!) out during our visit, you'll find lively scenes mere steps from the front desk but at a level where you can still have conversation. And with all the The Hotel Chelsea has to offer, somehow the team members all make this seem so effortless and their sense of welcome with every encounter is clearly felt. Hotel Chelsea is perfect. It evokes its famous past with modern day virtues. Our room (a suite ) was spacious, beautiful, comfortable and quiet. The bar is fun. Honestly we loved everything. We would definitely stay again. We simply loved it. Vicky
