The former was built by the Soviet Union in 1961 and separated the capital into eastern and western districts until it was torn down in the 1990s. The remnants of what’s left are all plastered in graffiti, and you’ll hear about the mood of the city’s two halves during the time it was split.The Brandenburg Gate, meanwhile, is an 18th century Neoclassical monument that takes pride of place near the centre of the city.
